Laboratory of Plant Anatomy and Morphology

Research activities in the Laboratory of Plant Anatomy and Morphology are directed towards examination of plant structural adaptations on different environmental conditions (salines, steppe habitats…). We have also been working on examination of plant organs of autochtonous and cultivated plants, with the aim to determine anatomical characteristics which could be useful in selection and breeding process. Our investigations also cover structural characteristics of medicinal plants, as well as the effect of heavy metals on structural and physiological characteristics of vegetative organs of cultivated plants and plants that could be suitable for fitoremediation of soils contaminated with heavy metals. Comparative morpho-anatomical investigations of different systematic groups of plants enable solution of taxonomical problems and determination of relationships between the groups.
